Has anyone notice that an 8.3% reduction in salary for one year is the same as working one month a year for free? 53% of people (a slight majority) would agree to the former, however only 37% (a distinct minority) would agree to the latter. They are the same thing in context of a twelve month period; so why the difference?

For those of us that are not so good at managing our money it is preferable to earn less each month than to have one month with no income.  Unless all the people we pay bills to every month are willing to give us a month off because we are not earning that period it would require some strict money management to ensure we could still pay bills without having any income.

Only if the shareholders in the company agreed to forgo their dividends, and the Directors and top management forewent their bonuses and also took an 8.3% cut. Fat chance.
